Hannah Lytle, a 13-year-old L.A. Ainger Middle School student, can see herself becoming a surgeon some day.   She's also thought about a career in cancer research, specifically discovering a cure for breast cancer, and, before that, she thought about becoming a marine biologist.   Her sister Alex, 16, wants to be a doctor.   They are among a growing number of young women interested in pursuing a career in science, long a male-dominated career path. South by Southwest drew to a close on a rare rainy, frigid Saturday (March 20) in Austin, Tx. The late Alex Chilton was memorialized by colleagues, friends and admirers on Saturday at South By Southewest -- with words and, most importantly, with music. Following a warmly reverent and nostalgic afternoon panel at the Austin Convention Center -- with Big Star co-founders Jody Stephens and Andy Hummel, latter-day members Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, original producer John Frye and others -- Big Star's s

Joey Gathright's specialty is speed. His problem is that he's not getting on base enough for the Toronto Blue Jays this spring to showcase it. If anything is going to consign Gathright to Triple-A it's going to be his bat — a .200 average with six singles in 30 at-bats, one walk and six strikeouts.

brings that speed element that we don't have a lot of. That's a part of it, but it's not only speed. There's a lot of guys that you can get out there with the ability to run, but you've got to get on base to be able to use your speed.   -Joey Gathright

With Jon Niese starting and pitching one inning and Fernando Nieve pitching in relief and throwing two, the Mets split a dual-site Florida doubleheader Sunday, losing to rain, not the Astros, in Kissimmee and beating the University of Michigan at home. It hardly was a day of great achievement. A team of mostly Mets regulars defeated Fred Wilpon's alma matter, 8-1.

Middle Tennessee rounded out play at the 2010 Blue Gray Classic against No. 44 Penn State Saturday afternoon falling 4-1. Photo ID: Sophomore Richard Cowden teamed with freshman Shaun Waters to defeat Ryan Gormley and Warren Hardie 8-6 and give the Blue Raiders the doubles point on Saturday afternoon. Middle Tennessee began play by taking the doubles point for a 1-0 lead.

With Victor Melo out of lineup we had to rearrange the doubles lineup. Kyle and John had a good win and then Richard and Shaun got the W to give us the doubles point. They were up 6-2 and made it more difficult than it needed to be but pulled it out in the end   -David McNamara
